On the left, the last of the "Bell Palaces", now known as Denver Champa. On the right is Denver Main or Denver AT&T.
Recollections from Jim Hebbeln: "Denver Main, 915 14th Street was the original site of the transcon route Denver termination. AT&T built a concrete block "attic" on the roof for the radio room. I think that would be the 15th floor, but the elevators only got up to 14. You then had to walk into this creepy square stairwell that only Alfred Hitchcock could love, as you could peer over the handrail and see down to the first floor. This is an equipment building, at least for the first 8-10 floors, which means each story is not 10' but 15-17' tall; it's a long way down. The final flight of stairs didn't cling onto the sidewall, but ascended - through thin air - across the abyss to the "attic". I only went up once and looked through the radio room door window."
