Maxwell-NE-SE This is looking northwest. The antennas on the left (west) are aimed at Sutherland to the west. The antennas facing the camera communicate with Cozad to the southeast.
Maxwell-NE-SW This is looking northeast. The antennas on the left (west) are aimed at Sutherland to the west. The antennas on the right (east) communicate with Cozad to the southeast. The tower and building are turned such that the door is facing south-southwest.

Maxwell-NE-ID Industrial Communications identification of their site at Maxwell, Nebraska.
Maxwell-NE-NE_sandhills With a pair of binoculars, I was able to see Sutherland to the west as a dot on the horizon. Despite using a telephoto lens, I was not able to capture it on film, but it is located exactly in the center of the frame. The Platte River and I-80 are located in the valley from left to right.

Maxwell, NE is an auxiliary station on AT&T's original transcontinental microwave route from New York to San Francisco which was completed in 1951. This site was probably built in 1950. Maxwell tower is located about three miles north of Maxwell, Nebraska, and about 5 miles north of Exit 190 on I-25. These pictures were taken on July 8, 2004.

Industrial Communications now owns the original tower sites from Sutherland to Fullerton inclusive, and has installed some parabolic dishes for their use. In fact, the horn anntennas may no longer be on this site. They had been using the horns with noise difficulties as I recall, and had decided to replace them with dishes which were being assembled while I was there. The interior of the building has been gutted, cleaned, and now has only a few relay racks of new radio equipment.
